Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2016 is just a couple days away! With a Stadium Stage lineup that consists of: Future, Pusha T, Big Sean, DJ Khaled (& Friends), A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, Bryson Tiller, Travi$ Scott, Young Thug, Tinashe, Kid Ink and a Terror Squad reunion, there’s no denying it’s going to be a HOT show. Not to mention the Festival Stage lineup that will open up earlier in the evening.
For Hot 97 DJ, Megan Ryte, she is looking forward to the show and the surprise guest artists; whom she doesn’t even know about. Despite having a busy week, she was still able to get on a call with us to talk about Summer Jam.
HipHopSince1987: I want to repeat something you said from a previous interview you did, where you say, “I’ve only been here (Hot 97) for a year, but what I know about Summer Jam is that the “& Friends” part is crazy.” Now, looking at this year’s Stadium line-up, who would be the ultimate surprise guest for you?
Megan Ryte: Nope! You can’t get me to do that and for a couple of reasons. One, I don’t want to jinx it and two, I don’t want you to think that I know something that I don’t know. I was walking around the studio asking people like “do you know? or do you know? Do I not know because it’s a seniority thing? I think the only person that really knows is Ebro. So..
And I think that with everything that’s happening in music, you can only guess certain people. And I think we will all be guessing the same artists. That’s the most I can say.”
HipHopSince1987: When you’re backstage at Summer Jam, as you stated, you get to witness so many big artists in one space. But for the most part, you’re able to keep your cool as a fan. Who would be that one artist who would make you say “OMG, look who it is!?”
Megan Ryte: There’s one person I’d have a “fan moment” with. For sure. I am a HUGE Eminem fan. If I were to ever see Eminem?! Man. I went to a festival and literally waited hours and hours to see him perform. It was raining and I ended up having to sit in the mud but I didn’t care. I was going to see Eminem perform. So if I ever saw him backstage at a Summer Jam, I wouldn’t even know what to do with myself.
HipHopSince1987: We all know the line-up for both stages at Summer Jam now, and both are filled with amazing performers. Who are you most excited to see?
Megan Ryte: On the Festival Stage, I’m excited to see Tory Lanez. I love how he performs. And he’s an artist I’ve seen from way back when and it’s going to be nice to see how much he’s grown. I know for sure he loves to get in the crowd. So I know Tory is going to be doing some crazy stuff. Dave East, who I just interviewed for Fox, and I’m excited for him. Because last year, he said he wanted to be on that stage and to see someone’s dream come true is exciting.
Stadium stage? Fat Joe. Remy. Remy is my girl, man. I’m excited to see her hit the stage. Like, Remy is doing it. She’s back and I’m happy for her. She really deserves it.
