Kentucky isn’t necessarily known for its Hip Hop, but 19 year old, Jack Harlow, is well on his way to changing that. While the bluegrass state is best known for its bourbon and fried chicken, Harlow – a Louisville KY native – injects some Hip Hop flavor into his beloved home state. Thanks to his mom, Harlow was exposed to the sounds of OutKast, Eminem and A Tribe Called Quest early on his life. By the age of 12, he garnered enough inspiration to start recording his own music in his bedroom. By the time Harlow was in high school, his Soundcloud page was already generating local buzz – which led him to selling out shows at some of Louisville’s popular venues.
With his career on the rise, Harlow took his talents to Atlanta – where he linked with another Kentucky native, KY Engineering. It was KY who brought Harlow to DJ Drama’s attention, who found Jack’s style of Hip Hop to be unique, and a “fun, thoughtful brand of lyricism that’s drawn comparisons to Drake.”
In November, Harlow unleashed a 10-track mixtape titled, “Gazebo,” that did its share of numbers. And as we kickstart the new year, it’s only looking brighter for the young talent. Watch his latest visual offering for his single, “Wasted Youth” featuring Shloob below.
