Dreamville’s finest will officially release his third studio LP next Tuesday. J. Cole’s “2014 Forest Hills Drive” has been marketed differently but still expected to be a sought after release. After listening to the stream, it’s interesting to hear Cole cover a wide range of topics – even taking shots at other rappers – over an array of beats.
“Same way that these rappers always bite each other’s flows. Same thing that my n*gga Elvis did with rock n’ roll. Justin Timberlake, Eminem and Macklemore.”
Overall, I’m pleased with the beat selection for the album and happy to finally get some new music from a fellow St. John’s University student. I also appreciate how diverse his music sounds on this project. Some cuts will have you thinking you’re listening to an old J. Cole mixtape, while others are clear representations of his transformation into a “mainstream artist.” Nonetheless, his versatility is appreciated.
