N*ggas be sleepin’ on me so I tuck’em in.
I first heard of Ponce DeLeioun’s music after browsing through my Twitter feed. If you know me, you know that I actively search for music, in hopes that I find something I genuinely f*ck with. In an era where digital brands and “influencers” dictate what we should listen to, I like to stray from the pack. I like what I like. Who are you to tell me what’s fire, or nah? So, fast-forwarded a few weeks later and I find out Ponce DeLeioun had released a new project!
The West Virginia native had teamed up with Tim Westwood on “Yellow Tape!” Tim Westwood’s cosign comes after two major freestyle sessions DeLeioun had with the popular DJ. On the mixtape, 15 of the hottest cuts that have gotten major radio spins – such as Desiigner’s “Panda” and Fat Joe & Remy Ma’s “All The Way Up – are featured and laced with DeLeioun’s rhymes.
Now, you might assume that he’s just another rapper doing another freestyle over a poppin’ single, but when Tim Westwood cosigns you, it’s kind of a big deal. And if you take a listen for yourself, you can hear why this West Virginia rapper is to be taken seriously.
