Brooklyn’s own, Jean Michel Basquiat, is the borough’s most celebrated and influential visual artist of our time. You’ve heard of his name – even today’s biggest rappers, like Jay Z have mentioned him in their lyrics. And probably seen portrayals of his face in art and cultural magazines, blogs, galleries, etc. But not many have actually seen his artwork up close and in person. But starting this Friday, September 8th, oil Saturday, September 9th, one group is “Bringing Basquiat Back to Brookyn.”
The event comes nearly a decade since the artist’s untimely death. And continues to celebrate his artistic legacy. Can you believe one of his paintings sold for nearly $110 MILLION recently? This whopping total set a new record for any US artist at an art auction.
