This past Wednesday, Boston Celtics became just the second team in NBA history to have two All-Star players and two Rising Stars players! Kyrie Irving and Al Horford were named All-Stars this past week, while Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum were dubbed “Rising Stars!” This can only be an indication that the Celtics are headed in the right direction. The future of the franchise was uncertain after Danny Ainge traded longtime Celtics, Paul Pierce, along with other key players from the 2008 championship team back in 2013.
While it was difficult to see these players – especially Pierce – part ways with the Celtics, it set the team up for a much needed rebuild. In exchange, the Celtics received the No. 17 pick in 2014, the No. 3 pick in 2016 and the No. 1 pick in 2017 – which we traded for the No. 3 pick in order to acquire Jayson Tatum. And if you’ve been watching this season so far, Tatum has proven himself to be a valuable asset.
Now, five years later, the Celtics are the best team in the East, and are projected to be legitimate contenders come playoff time. With Kyrie Irving leading the pack, alongside veteran, Horford, and the dynamic young duo that is Tatum & Brown, us Celtics fans are optimistic. And with the presence of these four players in the All-Star festivities, the Celtics resurgence as a force to be reckoned with seems more and more legitimate.
