Mark Richard, Jr. was a graphic designer whose creativity seaped over into his music. Now in the land of Hip Hop, his alter ego, Witt Lowry, has taken over. Hailing from my home state of Connecticut, it’s extremely rare to come across a new Hip Hop artist that isn’t trying to sound like every other rapper they hear on Hot 93.7. No offense if that’s you but I’m just saying. Some originality wouldn’t hurt some of these artists who come from places overshadowed by their neighbor, New York.
Ironically, Lowry reminds me of one of my favorite Hip Hop artists of all time. Especially on “I Could Be,” I can’t help but think of Marshall Mathers when I hear his flow and delivery on this cut. Such is the case when you start to listen to his other songs, but overall, he holds his own weight without losing his own identity. And what’s cool is that he doesn’t sound like he’s trying to emulate Em, on purpose, at all.
While the comparison, may or may not affect how others perceive him as an artist, there’s no doubt that Will Lowry has something special to offer. Definitely keep your eyes and ears out for one of CT’s fnest.
